What Happened to Dude Ranches?

There is a great race that is constantly being run. People are hurrying always to collect the latest gadgets, own the fastest car, the sleekest cell phone, and the latest in home appliances. There isn’t one person who caused this phenomenal obsession with nuance. Society has simply evolved over time, knowing that the reason they are evolving is because they choose to. We know we have the power to change the looks of tomorrow by simply experimenting with knowledge today. Today, the ideal vacation for the modern citizen to brag about involves a streamline jet to a five star hotel in Tokyo to check out the latest in technology at a world-premier convention. People have a fixation with new, with fast, and with shiny. It seems that people have forgotten the origin of excitement in American culture. When cowboys rode across the west and wrangling wild stallions was the lay of the land. It doesn’t seem like people are interested in this sort of fun anymore, and places like guest ranches that keep that fun alive are becoming less talked about.
The reasons behind the slowly dying interest in the ranches are rather contrived when you think about it. People simply don’t have time to take a weekend away from town and spend it on a ranch with eggs and bacon in the morning and stars and campfires at night. And yet it seems like people are more convinced they can’t spare any time away from the office, and if they can, they would rather be spending it on a beach or in a hotel, not in dude ranches.
And yet Montana have so many activities and land to roam, it’s hard to think a beach is more appealing to the wide open spaces. There is more to do on a ranch than on a beach resort, and sometimes they are much more rewarding. And a trip to a ranch could do more wonders than tanning on an island. Physical activity, whether taking walks down dirt paths or horseback riding, releases endorphins which relax and delight the mind. These hormones are released much less when lying or sitting for a long vacation. Also, a trip to one of the ranches could end up being a lot cheaper than that grand trip to the beach. All wisdom points towards the direction of the ranches.
And yet some people still turn up their noses at the idea. Some people can’t be helped, but for others, a simple nudge out the door is all they need. It’s more difficult to have a bad time at one of the ranches than it is to enjoy yourself. Surrounded by activity, friendly hosts, and fresh air, it’s very hard to frown. The first step is merely taking a look outside the box, beyond the race for technology, and take a break. The race will always be run by someone, if not several people, so why not let someone do the running for a while?
