There are a many ways to kill time; from sitting in front of a t.v. to deep sea diving. There are a thousand possible ways to hold an event; from renting a convention center, to descending on a desolate desert flat and throwing a party. There are Dallas event facilities, Dallas ranches, and Dallas schools that all provide space and ability to host events. There is no reason for not creating a memorable experience to share with friends, the public, co-workers or specialty organizations. Developing a fun event that fits the mood and budget is part of the fun. There are a many events throughout the world that are quirky and fun.

Some current unusual events include the great tomato wars put on every fall in Colorado. When it comes to sports whether it is college or professional, Colorado natives have a huge rivalry with residents coming up from Texas. In a well established and generally friendly feud the two states have created an event that helps mitigate the tension created by visiting Texans. Every fall there is an intense and sporty war with rotten and overripe tomatoes.

The sides line up in a field and go at it. Colorado also has an event where vehicles are built that can cross both land and water. These transportation devices are often more whimsical then practical. In Pasadena California there is the Rose bowl parade and the Doo Da parade, a comic riff on the staid and formal nature of the more formal Rose bowl parade. The Doo Da Parade hosts such imaginative marching teams as the lawn chair drill team, and the Briefcase Marching brigade. It is amazing what can be done with lawn chairs and briefcases.

Burning Man in the Nevada desert is one of the great counter culture gatherings of the year. Burning Man is such a popular counter culture event that it is becoming a mainstream counter culture event. The desert fills with people and become tribal in nature, dancing, singing, doing arts and crafts, all culminating in the burning of a giant effigy. Some towns have events like the Garlic Festival, the broccoli fair, The Eggplant Carnival, The Root Vegetable Hootenanny, or the smelt harvest. There are no limitations for what can make an event.

Successful events such as Mardi Gras, celebrate an occasion, either of a season, a holiday, an era or a cultural issue. Following social trends can create great one time events; like Woodstock in the sixties, the inauguration of the first black president or the bringing down of the Berlin Wall. These were all occasions that caught the imagination of higher ideas and simmering tensions seeking a forum. Developing a meaningful social event is difficult as it tends to have a life of its own and coalesces around current issues. Most of the lasting recurring events are usually playful expressions like bed races, zombie parades, and ski rodeos.

Creating a successful event depends on a concept that captures the imagination, offers an opportunity to laugh, play, dance or find some form of expression.
