Social Networking: A Device for Self-Promotion?

A short time ago someone said to me "If you are not on Facebook, you basically don't even exist." I am now beginning to believe them. Social network sites give you an insight into what your buddy's and work mates are doing. If you don't use these websites then it's very awkward to keep in touch.
Though don't just think of these internet sites as a way of keeping up to date about the lives of acquaintances. Advertising yourself and promoting your product is another use of these sites as many real estate agents have found out. Newspaper adverts, Leaflets and Billboards are 'old hat' and businesses need to move with the times. Using and advertising on the internet is now the way to go. If you scan the internet, you will discover lots of articles with hints on how to use, and promote yourself, on social networking sites.
Finding your way round websites, different systems of writing and all that goes with making use of the internet, can be awkward for older people who are not used to it. For the older generation it is going to take time to study, whereas children seem to know how to do it naturally. In spite of the issue we still have a go. Those feelings, I guess, are not just felt by me, but by quite a few realtors out there.
After working all day its not surprising we come home shattered, so it's hard to sum up the energy to find interesting things to write about on blogs or make posts on social websites such as facebook and twitter. Nonetheless, saying that it's does form a slice of our daily habits. Instead of sitting down in front of the TV, resting now means sitting in front of a computer and going on social networking websites. Is there people out there that are interested in our posts? Do individuals, other than fellow realtors, actually study the articles we post? I think we will never know for sure, will we?
I actually do check out the websites of my fellow real estate associates and I do read the features they write, because the topics are of interest. But who knows whether their writing also draw ordinary people (I don't mean this in a negative way, of course), the job of whom is not involved with real estate at all. By reading colleagues blogs and articles, it doesn't matter how often I see them, I am always up to date with their lives. So I may not have talked to someone for a long time, but I can truthfully say I have learnt alot about them, and this is thanks to social networking. That sure is wonderful!
In my professional life I sell Condos in Toronto, and I consider social networking to be one of the key ways of attracting clients. Therefore I hope this little article did help you
